Awareness in Each
I came across this article 'Eat Better, Lose Weight' in Health Today magazine. It is indeed true that the obesity is in high rise in Malaysia. It comes together with health problem mainly cardiovascular disease and diabetics.
Malaysia is a food paradise and Malaysian just love to eat; I'm a Malaysian too. Ask to choose between a bowl of cereal and a plate of fried chicken nasi lemak for breakfast. How many of us will reject the delicious nasi lemak and go for the cereal? Maybe few. Our hand will definitely reach for the plate full of nasi lemak. How about a cheese burger from fast food outlet and a plate of healthy balanced food for a lunch? I'm pretty sure it's cheese burger!
This is the highlight of today's topic. Not the nasi lemak or cheese burger but the awareness that Malaysian has in eating to live a healthy life. Most of the articles highlight the healthy way of eating to stay healthier. But, very few touch on the awareness on healthy eating habit among people. It's pretty hard to create awareness in a larger scale. Maybe we can start in a smaller scale; schools. By giving talks on healthy eating habits though not a good choice(students easily get bored with talks) but it does help. Students can know what to eat and avoid in their daily life. To add this, it's better to start from the most basic in every school ;canteens. The school should choose tenders that offering more healthier and affordable choices. By having healthier choices, students get direct access to better eating style. Eventually, this will become their habit in their life.
Question may arise on how far we can control student's eating habit once they step out from the school. Fast food and junk food! Students love them to every bit. Interestingly, fast food outlet offering cheaper meal and it's easily available. This will draw more attention to fast food. This is where family need to step in. Parents should be aware that fast food is not the right choice for both of them. It's sad to see when parents themselves bring their kids to fast food outlet for meal especially for breakfast early in the morning. No matter how busy is the parents, it's always easy to do sandwiches or prepare a bowl of cereal for the kids. I'm not criticizing fast food but I do hope everyone will reduce fast food in daily life and go for more healthier choice.
It's always good to see students bring their own packed food from home. This is the changes I'm looking for in every houses. Better get start now!

A day trip to Pulau Kapas, Terengganu
I have been in Terengganu for almost 1 year and never visited any island. So, I made up my mind to visit all the island and beach before I leave Terengganu. So, I started with Pantai Batu Burok. Pantai Batu Burok is located in Kuala Terengganu and just behind the government hospital. It's the best place to stroll after a hectic day. I believe that cold breeze and nice view of the sea is the best remedy to chase away your stress.Yes, it does!
Not to miss, Pantai Pandak that also located in Kuala Terengganu. I believe it has the most beautiful sunset view. It's an unexplored beach. Both Pantai Batu Burok and Pantai Pandak is not suitable for swimming. I don't mind as I am not a good swimmer and I don't feel the urge to swim in both the beach. Unlike my friends. Bored with this two beach, I planned to explore more to the island. The nearest was Pulau Kapas. Pulau Kapas or known as Cotton Island is one of the most beautiful island in Terengganu.
Yes, Terengganu! The island got it's name due to the extremely soft sand. It's like you are stepping on a bed full of cotton.
Three of us started our day with MCD breakfast before heading to Jetty Marang. Luckily, we managed to come early to the Jetty before 9.30 am as the first boat take off sharp at 9.30am. It's always better to take the first boat, so that you can spend more time at the island. Remember to choose your package wisely before you leave. Yeah, they too provide a day trip package besides few days package. We were approached by this guy from Coral Beach Resort as soon as we parked our car. After much negotiation with the person in charged, we managed to get a day trip package that include 2 way trip (from Jetty <->Pulau Kapas) and snorkeling. This cost us RM60 per person. We later found out that we paid more compared to other passengers in the boat. *frustrated but it's ok.
We boarded on the boat and head to Pulau Kapas. So, the journey offically begins now. We reached the island in 20 minutes. The scenery on the way to the island was magnificent. The boat stopped at the jetty in Pulau Kapas and dropped few passengers who are not joining us for the snorkeling. Then, here we go heading to snorkeling spot. It's not too far from the Gemias Island (Gem Island). The driver stopped the boat not far from the shore and gave instruction what to do and don't when snorkeling since this was our first snorkeling. The guy helped us with the life jacket and snorkeling mask. And, yes this is the time!I feel so proud of myself to be able to do this although I need to depend on the buoy. Forget to mention, I am not good at swimming also. But, I managed to survive the entire 2 hours in sea.
After that, we asked the driver to bring us to the shore. The guy promised to fetch us at 5 pm. It's the last boat to go from the island to the jetty. They provide boat service for every 2 hours. And we simply choose the last boat to stay longer in the island. They too provide kayaking and We had so much of fun among us. Pulau Kapas is indeed a beautiful island. The crystal clear water and the white 'cotton' sand will remind you to come back again. It's the perfect getaway for all of us and I'm sure for you too!
